Abstract

This research reflects on the relationship between health and the environment, understanding diseases as collective manifestations. Understanding that it is in the territory where events occur, we seek to establish a relationship between territory, globalization and pandemic to investigate the interrelation of events and concepts. To do this, we seek to examine how the Covid-19 pandemic occurred, with its beginning decreed by the Brazilian Ministry of Health in 2020 and ending in 2023, decreed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The research corresponds to the period from 2020 to 2023 in the municipality of Santana do Mundaú, in the state of Alagoas. The study revealed that globalization amplified the circulatory transition of capital, a reflection of the pandemic as a product of this circulation in the territories. By observing this phenomenon both with regard to viral contamination and the fight against the virus, it was found that the context of vaccine purchases and the correlation of planetary forces brought to light the issue of inequalities on a local and global scale. , especially for victims of the disease, which affected around 1,971 people. Those infected by Covid-19 in the city of Mundaú represented 0.23% of the municipality’s population at that time. The cases can be explained by the occupation of the population in the territory and by the spatial distance between residences in the rural area and the urban area. In this context, the globalization process was highlighted with regard to the movement of people and the contagion of the virus and, in a technical-scientific and informational manner, the discovery of the vaccine and its global reach in the fight against the disease.
