Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to show how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Human Rights approach have posed several challenges for the conception and management of forced internal displacement (FIDH) in Mexico. From an SDG perspective, forced internal displacement is particularly relevant to goals related to peace, justice and institutions, as well as efforts to reduce inequalities. For human rights, forced internal displacement poses significant challenges in terms of the right to life, security, protection from torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. In short, addressing forced internal displacement is a challenge because it requires a comprehensive approach that respects and strengthens human rights principles and the SDGs. This is the only way to confront the new emerging realities and protect the most vulnerable populations in their quest for security and dignity.
